Hallo, and welcome to this work in progress!

This feels a bit like the internet version of hosting one’s first dinner party in a new house, while there are still boxes stacked in the corner, but I’m taking my time on purpose. I want to get to know you and what you’d like to see here, and to see what feels right.

The whole affair of building a website and shop has been (more than just a bit) like a studio class experience itself. Digging in, elbow deep, with the tools I have (basic and few) and what I know (even less!) and figuring it out, all with the faith/hope/delusion that it’ll improve the further in I get. It’s been frustrating, and confusing, and I’m so proud of my flawed little corner of the internet!

So, first and most obvious question: Who am I and why are we here? I wanted a place to share the things I’m making with you. A place to share my processes and excitement and maybe help spark that same feeling for you.

Which leads us to: What do I make? Well, simply put, lots of things. I sew, and I knit, I work with wood, metal, found objects, and more. I print, I paint, I curate, and I mend. I produce functional items as well as purely decorative ones. I’m always getting involved in something new, and there’s always a new material or process being played with over here. I've always been involved in the arts and in creating. Though I suspect I may be the only person who has ever gone back to school in their 30’s to get out of a career in interior design, I wanted to build things - I wanted to be in the welding, carpentry, and upholstery shops when I was designing pieces for clients, rather than just sketching and providing measurements. I achieved my degree in Applied 3D Design and cemented for myself that I am a maker. I am hands on. I am a tinkerer and experimenter.

I am a Smith.
